Day Trip Ideas Near San Antonio
While San Antonio has a long list of activities to fill your weekend, sometimes we want to switch it up a little! With plenty of cute, hill country towns just outside of San Antonio, why not take a day trip and switch up your weekend routine? Below we’ve curated three itineraries for your next day trip.
Fredericksburg
Just over an hour outside of San Antonio sits Texas’ Wine Country. But if you’re not a big drinker, Fredericksburg has lots of other activities to enjoy!
- Wine Tours! If you don’t want to choose from the long list of wineries, let one of those touring companies do all the work for you.
- Hike Cross Mountain or Enchanted Rock. If you’re more of an outdoorsy type, then check out Cross Mountain for an easier hike or Enchanted Rock to get amazing views of the Texas Hill Country.
- Eat your way through Fredericksburg! There are so many delicious restaurants to stop at while visiting Fredericksburg.
- Shopping on main. Main street offers a wide variety of shops, restaurants, and winery storefronts. Catch some live music between shops or stop in at one of the many restaurants. There is something for everyone on main!
Dripping Springs
Dripping Springs is located about an hour and 20 minutes outside of San Antonio and offers a great look into the heart of the Texas Hill Country. Whether you’re visiting one of the many breweries or distilleries, or checking out one of their many hiking trails, you won’t run out of activities!
- Go hiking! Dripping Springs is nestled in the heart of the Texas Hill Country and offers a lot of hiking trails so you can take in the gorgeous scenery.

- Because the hill country is so beautiful, there are a ton of indoor/outdoor attractions to enjoy on your visit to Dripping Springs.
New Braunfels & Gruene
Just 35 minutes from San Antonio, New Braunfels and Gruene have a ton to do! From live music and shopping, to floating the river and breweries, you won’t run out of things to do here.
- Check out local musicians at one of the many live music venues in the area.
- New Braunfels and Gruene have a ton of boutiques and local shops to check out while you’re walking around the main streets.
- Grab a cooler and some sunscreen and float the river! This is a great way to spend a warm afternoon with some friends or family. There are a ton of tubing companies to choose from so we’ve narrowed it down for you.
