James P. Allison, Ph.D., Nobel Laureate will serve as the guest of honor at A Conversation With a Living Legend® luncheon in San Antonio on Nov. 18. Proceeds from this event will support the newly established James P. Allison Institute at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.
Allison was awarded the 2018 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for discoveries that launched the field of cancer immunotherapy. Allison’s fundamental research provided new insights into T cell biology and led to his invention of ipilimumab. He is vice president of Immunobiology and chair of Immunology at MD Anderson, and he was named a regental professor by The University of Texas System Board of Regents. He holds the Olga Keith Wiess Distinguished University Chair for Cancer Research and is executive director of MD Anderson’s immunotherapy platform. Allison was born in Alice, Texas and studied at the University of Texas in Austin.
