St. Patrick's Day in the Alamo City

As the greenest holiday of the year approaches, San Antonio gears up to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in true Texas style. From lively parades to festive pub crawls and everything in between, there’s no shortage of exciting events to mark this day of shamrocks and shenanigans. Weather you’re a local looking for new ways to celebrate, or a visitor eager to experience the unique charm of San Antonio, here’s our roundup of the top St. Patricks Day events happening in the Alamo City.

Dyeing of the San Antonio river

Each year since 1968, San Antonio eagerly anticipates the magical transformation of the iconic River Walk into the fabled River Shannon, courtesy of 25 gallons of eco-friendly green dye. The city comes alive with spirited echos of bagpipes as the waterway turns a radiant emerald green; a spectacle that never fails to captivate both locals and visitors alike. From 11am to noon, the enchanting dyeing unfolds along the Museum Reach, followed by a second display from 1pm to 3pm along the downtown stretch of the river. If your looking for a fun and perfect view we suggest Boudros, Domingo, or The Esquire. If you can’t make it down Sunday, or are waiting to celebrate on actual St. Patrick’s Day, the downtown strech of the river will be redyed from 1pm – 3pm on the 17th.
